Welcome To Sheringham

Sheringham

An award winning beach sits at the very bottom of the town of Sheringham on the North Norfolk coast. The small side roads and railway offer a sense of history and character that very few towns can offer in modern day Britain.

Norfolk accommodation is varied and cost effective, for instance high season a cottage that sleeps 4 can be found quite easily for between £400 and £500 either on the coast or slightly in land. The georgian town of Holt is a nice place to stay for accessibility to a large stretch of coast all within about 20 minutes.

The coast is rocky here to prevent coastal erosion and high waves, although there are some good stretches of sandy beach in between the groynes which is best used at low tide.

Sheringham tourist office sits just behind the railway station on the Poppy Line which has steam trains taking passengers from this end point along to Weybourne and then on to the Georgian town of Holt. The ten and a half mile round trip by steam passes through areas of outstanding natural beauty, an enjoyable way to relive the olden days of steam trains.

There are a myriad of unusual and small shops and as you would expect plenty of fish and chip shops for that all important feast by the sea.

Events

Sheringham Carnival is the town's largest annual event encompassing a week of activities during the month of August, the week before Cromer Carnival.

All sorts of fun for all the family is to be had along with the classic car display which you may already have read about and of course the finale of the parade and the fireworks display, only if you were there would you understand the Oh Lordy caption to the top most image on the right.

Out & About

Sheringham has both a lifeboat museum and also a museum that tells of the history of Sheringham particularly with the fishing and lifeboats.

Golfers will not be disappointed with Sheringham 18 hole golf course beckoning and the Royal Cromer Golf Club and course available only a few miles along the coast.

Priory Maze and Gardens welcome you to enjoy walks with ponds and streams, woodland, meadows and of course to find your way through the Priory maze.

Fitness fanatics and swimmers of all abilities will enjoy 'Splash', the local sports center west along Cromer Road which has both a gym and swimming pool. The football field is behind Splash.

Sheringham also offers a varied shopping experience. Unusual shops such as the Smugglers Cove which are unexpected in a coastal town are a wonderful addition and its difficult not to leave with empty arms, but alas not an empty wallet!
